Overview
It is important that cyclists always stop in a safe place and let the other traffic know what they are doing.
Stopping
Take a look at the diagram below:
Cyclist A wants to come to a stop. Drag and drop the instructions in the green box below into the correct order in the blue box opposite. If you need some help please view the video clip below the coloured boxes.

- Look back over the right shoulder.
- If it’s safe, signal clearly with the right arm – arm straight, fingers together and palm facing downwards. Move the right arm up and down 3 times.
- Put both hands back on the handlebars ready to start braking.
- Squeeze both brakes equally to slow down smoothly.
- Give a lifesaver look over the right shoulder – making sure it is safe to stop.
- Pull in at the side and dismount onto the left hand side.
