iBike - iCycle - Left turn (major road to minor road)

Priority at junctions

Normally the traffic on the major road has priority. Cyclists need to be aware that some drivers may not give them priority – they need to check all around them for traffic and try to make eye contact with drivers to make sure they have seen them.

Left Turn (major road to minor road)

Take a look at the diagram below:

Cyclist A is approaching the junction. Drag and drop the instructions in the green box below into the correct order in the blue box opposite. If you need some help please view the video clip below the coloured boxes.

You can also download the printed version here.

  • Look back as you approach the junction.
  • Signal clearly with the left arm – holding for at least 3 seconds.
  • Put both hands back on.
  • Give a lifesaver look back.
  • Go! Turn left into the junction staying reasonably close to the 3 kerb. Look out for traffic turning in front of you and give way to any pedestrians crossing the road.

Congratulations!
You put all the steps in the correct order!
